“The British broadcaster BBC has compiled a list of the six most promising museum openings in the world for the coming year. Among futuristic projects in Los Angeles and Abu Dhabi, one striking European name stands out: Kanal-Centre Pompidou in Brussels. However, the BBC also tips a notable newcomer in Flanders.

Those wishing to soak up world-class culture this autumn need not cross national borders. According to the BBC, the opening of Kanal-Centre Pompidou in November 2026, in the former Citroën garage, is an absolute milestone. The iconic Art Deco building on the Brussels Canal is currently being transformed into a “light and airy” art temple of no less than 40,000 square meters.

Matisse, Picasso…

The timing is perfect: because the parent house in Paris is closed for renovation until 2030, masterpieces by masters such as Matisse, Picasso, and Mondrian are temporarily moving to our capital. Moreover, the complex promises to be more than a museum; with a rooftop terrace, a public library, and even its own bakery, it is set to become a vibrant new city district.
